Research Security Training

To: All Current Federally Funded Investigators

February 16, 2026

Summary: By May 25, 2026, all federally funded investigators must complete Yale’s Research Security training via Workday Learning to comply with new federal regulations. OSP will not be able to submit a federal proposal if all Senior/Key personnel on the submission have not completed the required training.

Dear Investigator,

In earlier messages last fall, we shared Yale’s new Research Security training program, which responds to changing federal requirements under the CHIPS and Science Act of 2022 regarding research security and disclosure of “Other Support” made available to researchers.

By May 25, 2026, all federally funded researchers and all senior/key personnel listed on a federal proposal application should complete this training – available through Workday Learning – to ensure that your research activities, including application submission, are not disrupted. For more information about this requirement, please refer to the FAQs below.

We recognize that the addition of this requirement places new demands on your time. We are committed to making the process as straightforward as possible and to providing resources that minimize administrative burden while also ensuring that Yale and your research activities remain eligible for federal support.

Thank you for your continued partnership in upholding the highest standards of research integrity and compliance. If you have any questions regarding these federally mandated requirements, please reach out to Maneesha Joshi, Director of the Research Integrity and Security Office, at research.security@yale.edu, or Lisa Mosley, Executive Director of Office of Sponsored Projects, at osphelp@yale.edu.

Sincerely,

Research Security Training FAQs

Covered Individuals (Senior/Key Personnel at Yale) must certify that they have completed the requisite research security training within 12 months prior to application submission and must certify annually that they have completed training within the past 12 months when submitting a research performance progress report (RPPR). The Office of Sponsored Projects (OSP) will not be able to submit your application if the training has not been completed.

May 25, 2026, for NIH applications due on or after May 25, 2026

This training requirement has been mandated by the Chips & Science Act of 2022 and NSPM-33. Some individual federal agencies (NSF, Department of Energy, NIH, USDA, NASA) have already mandated the training, and we anticipate that other federal agencies will announce their date of adherence soon. Therefore, we strongly encourage all federally funded researchers and senior/key personnel to complete the training to remain eligible for federal funding.

Yale has developed the following Research Security Training Module in Workday Learning, which fulfills the federal training requirements noted above. This training meets both requirements for Other Support and Research Security training. You can view/download your transcript anytime by following the instructions in this guide.

No, OSP will not be able to submit your application if the training has not been completed. Federal agencies are asking Yale to attest that all Senior/Key personnel have completed the training; therefore, in order to appropriately attest, the training is a requirement prior to proposal submission.

NIH (May 25,2026), USDA (December 2025), NSF (October 2025), Department of Energy (May 2025), and NASA (August 2026) have already announced this training requirement and the date of adherence. We expect the other federal agencies will announce their date of adherence very soon.
