This on-demand eLearning is the prerequisite for the majority of our courses. It provides an overview of the sponsored award process from pre-award through post award and closeout. Intro Track
Intro Track for Research Administrators is designed to provide a comprehensive foundation in the key areas of managing sponsored projects. Upon completing this training track, you will recognize the best practices in research administration needed to effectively manage sponsored projects. You will develop a solid foundation in research compliance principles and improve your ability to ensure project compliance with institutional, federal, and sponsor-specific policies and regulations.

Pre-Award Track
Pre-Award Track for Research Administrators is designed to provide the foundational knowledge needed to manage grants (including proposal tracking in IRES) and cooperative agreements while maintaining compliance with all relevant policies and regulations. Upon completing this training track, you will gain an understanding of reviewing, approving, and managing non-financial post-award activities, including No-Cost Extensions (NCEs), Prior Approval requests, award transfers, and other necessary approvals. Additionally, you will learn to interpret sponsor requirements and federal regulations, submit progress reports needing AOR signatures, and ensure compliance with University and sponsor policies.

Post Award Track
The Post-Award Track for Research Administrators offers comprehensive training in the financial administration of sponsored projects. This track equips administrators with essential skills to manage grants and cooperative agreements effectively, ensuring adherence to all pertinent policies and regulations. Participants will also gain proficiency in proposal tracking using the IRES system.
Upon completing this training track, you will gain an understanding of the allocation and allowability of costs and the rules regarding cost-sharing. You will learn how to review financial transaction reports, navigate Federal regulations related to cost transfers and foreign flight reservations charged to federal awards. Additionally, you will learn about the process of the award closeout, ensuring compliance with both sponsor requirements and University policies.

Clinical Research Track
Clinical Track for Researchers and Research Administrators is designed to provide the foundational knowledge needed to maintain compliance with all relevant policies and regulations when performing medical research sponsored by federal awards.
Upon completing this training track, you will gain an understanding of effective clinical trial budgeting, good clinical practice, how to bill for services provided, prepare an internal budget, describe elements of a sponsor’s budget, and how to perform research with human subjects.

Subawards Track
Subawards Track for Research Administrators is designed to provide the foundational knowledge needed for subrecipient monitoring and processing of subrecipient invoices to maintain compliance with all relevant policies and regulations.
Upon completing this training track, you will gain an understanding of the distinction between a subrecipient and a contractor relationship. You will be able to identify the steps required to process, review, and approve subrecipient invoices, generate Workday reports, and distribute prepayments to a subrecipient.
